February 17, 2010 / 9:00 am – 3:00 pm

New to the area, or been here all your life, but still don’t know the name of that big white bird you just
passed in the retention pond down the block?

Spend the day with Trout Lake Nature Center volunteers on February 17th, 9:00 am to 3:00 pm and get to
know your feathered neighbors.

Chuck and Nora Kegley and Bob and Mary Wexler, your friendly and knowledgeable guides, will introduce
you to Lake County’s most commonly seen birds.  They will present each bird with its photo, and provide
tips to help you identify all the big white birds, and some of the small brown birds you might see.   There will
also be information on “birder’s tools” and where the birds like to hang out in the area.

You are invited to join us as we break for lunch at the Crazy Gator, and then  practice our new birding skill
at Eustis Lake Walk.

Pre-registration is required and a $5.00 donation is suggested.  Call 352-357-7536 to register.  Bring
binoculars if you have them.

To reach TLNC travel north of Eustis on Rte. 19, turn right or East onto CR 44 (Publix / Winn Dixie
intersection), and proceed .3 mile to the entrance on the right.

March 7, 2010 / 2:00pm

The Oklawaha Valley Audubon Society will present a special program of readings and songs about the
Civilian Conservation Corp (CCC)  on Sunday, March 7, at 2:00 at the Trout Lake Nature Center in Eustis.
The event features Michigan author and song writer, Bill Jamerson performing his original music and
reading excerpts from his book, Big Shoulders.  Jamerson wrote and produced the PBS film “Camp
Forgotten.”   A donation of $15 is suggested. If anyone knows of CCC members who might be able to attend
as special guests or to reserve tickets, please contact Billie Argenziano at 352 357 8270 or Russ Littlefield
at 352 735 0690 for more information.

During the Great Depression, the Civilian Conservation Corp (CCC) put millions of young men to work
during  a nine year period from 1933-1942.  In Florida they planted millions of trees, fought forest fires and
built roads.  They built or upgraded many of our state parks including O’leno in HighSprings, Gold Head in
Keystone Heights, and Hillsborough State Park. Come, reminisce, learn and be entertained.  Wine and
refreshments provided starting at 1:00..
